On May 13-14 our international partner Bioeconomy Cluster in Halle (Germany) organized the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference with this time South America as partner region.
The Conference had as motto: “ Bio meets Economy – Science meets Industry ” The confecerence took place in the Leopoldina, home of the German National Academy of Science in Halle, Sachsen-Anhalt.
International experts spoke about sustainability and socio-economic aspects, biobased value chains, biorefining, high value products and about plant science.
Science was well represented with experts from various branches of the Leibniz Institute (Leipzig), The Helmholtz Institute for Environmental Research, Fraunhofer CBP (Leuna) and several other Institutes and Universities, including South-American contributors to the program. Also industry took part with several interesting presentations by well-known companies such as Sudzucker and Solvay, and less known SME ‘s such as Blucon Biotech (lactic acid from 2nd gen), Miltitz Aromatics (fine chemicals) and BlueBio Tech GmbH (micro-algae).
Biobased Delta was represented at the event by Boardmember Willem Sederel. Several new contacts were made with Institutes and companies to explore future collaboration.
The meeting opened with several presentations reflecting status and challenges of the bioeconomy in Germany. It is interesting to note that Circular Economy is seen as a subset of the Bioeconomy, rather than the other way around at the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference that had next to presentations ample opportunities for networking and visiting the exhibition area.
