The strength of Biobased Delta
The delta region is at the forefront in the transition to a biobased economy.
- Innovative businesses:The Dutch provinces of North Brabant, Zeeland and South Holland are home to the industries that will play a key role in the biobased transition. The advanced agricultural industry produces biomass, the chemical industry is developing alternatives to fossil fuels, and the highly developed construction sector and packaging industry are taking steps towards the biobased economy.
- Strategic location:The delta region is located in the economic heart of Europe. Biobased raw materials are sourced through the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Amsterdam and processed in the region. Goods and products can be transported to the Ruhr region and other industrial heartlands quickly and efficiently thanks to the excellent water, rail and road connections.
- A first-rate knowledge infrastructure:Several knowledge centres located in the delta are world leaders in sustainability. They include Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology and Avans University of Applied Sciences. Close contact is also maintained with Wageningen University and other institutions. The knowledge centres are hothouses of sustainability. They also provide a steady flow of students eager to work in sustainable industries.
- Very strong cooperation:The authorities, businesses and knowledge centres work closely together and benefit from each other’s strengths. They are all driven by the economic potential of the biobased economy, the will to innovate and the need to make the economy more sustainable through biobased innovations. The results of their cooperation are presented on this site.
